
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President MK Stalin said on Friday that no decision has been taken yet on whether to contest the by-elections or not. When asked about his claims to contest the by-election from Tiruchirappalli-East seat, Stalin told reporters that no decision has been taken yet. Let us tell you that former Chief Minister Stalin had to face defeat from Kolathur Assembly seat in the assembly elections held on 23 April.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay retained the Perambur seat and resigned from Tiruchirappalli-East seat. Five rebel leaders of AIADMK had resigned from their assembly membership.
Many MLAs resigned
Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai) and P. Satyabhama (Dharapuram-SC) were the first three rebel AIADMK leaders to resign from their assembly membership on May 25. The next day, Eski Subbaiah resigned from his Ambasamudram seat.
By-elections expected in a few months
Whereas C. Vijayabhaskar had left his Viralimalai seat on 16 June. Except Vijaybhaskar, all four rebel leaders have joined the ruling TVK. His supporters hope that Vijaybhaskar will also join TVK soon. By-elections for vacant seats are expected in a few months.
Political stir due to CM Vijay’s statement
Let us tell you that recently in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, a political stir started due to CM Joseph Vijay’s sarcasm on Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin. During his speech, CM Vijay had asked Udhayanidhi where his father (MK Stalin) is. After which DMK leaders have indicated that party chief Stalin can return to the Assembly by contesting the by-elections to be held in the state.
By-elections on 6 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu
A section of the DMK wants Stalin to contest from one of the seats in the assembly by-elections to be held in the coming months. Currently, by-elections are to be held on 6 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. These seats have become vacant due to the resignation of Vijay and five AIADMK MLAs.
