June 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Nirjala Ekadashi 2026: There are 24 Ekadashi fasts in a year and 26 Ekadashi fasts in Purushottam month, but in the scriptures, Nirjala Ekadashi falling in the month of Jyeshtha is considered to have the most importance. This year, Nirjala Ekadashi fast will be observed on 25th June i.e. tomorrow. There is a religious belief that if a person does not observe Ekadashi fast throughout the year, if he observes this one fast as per the rules, then he gets the virtue of all Ekadashi fasts. The fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is also mentioned in Mahabharata and many Puranas.

According to the legend, this fast was observed by Pandu’s son Bhima himself and attained the virtue of all Ekadashi fasts. Nirjala Ekadashi fast is observed without consuming water. Besides, some other strict rules mentioned in the religious scriptures are also followed on this day. It is believed that ignoring the rules of fasting on this day may anger Shri Hari Vishnu. In such a situation, let us know what and what should not be done on this day?
