The Sia-Ketan case of Pune, Maharashtra has become a topic of discussion in the country. Yesterday, Ketan’s father Vishal Aggarwal met Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. The CM assured him of punishing Ketan’s killers. Now Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam has been made in this case. This is the same Ujjwal Nikam, who has played the role of public prosecutor in the 2008 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and other high-profile cases.
Senior lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Nikam said on Friday that he has accepted this responsibility on the request of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the victim’s family. Ujjwal Nikam told that he had received a call from the Chief Minister in the afternoon. He informed that Ketan Aggarwal’s family had met him. On his behalf, he had demanded the appointment of senior lawyer Nikam in this case.
‘The whole country has been shaken by the murder’
Ujjwal Nikam said, “The entire country has been shaken by this murder.” He said, “The police investigation is still going on. Only after the charge sheet is filed, we will be able to tell about the status of the investigation. This is a big responsibility, because I have handled many such cases in the state of Maharashtra and will continue to do so.” The senior lawyer said, “The rule of law should be maintained in Maharashtra and keeping this spirit in mind, I told the Chief Minister, ‘Yes, I will definitely look into the matter’.”
What is the matter?
On the very first day of the appointment of senior lawyer, Ketan Aggarwal’s father met Chief Minister Fadnavis in Pune and demanded fast-track justice in the case. The government has approved the demand for setting up a fast-track court and has also appointed Nikam as public prosecutor. Ketan Aggarwal died on June 18 after falling from Lohgarh Fort near Pune.
The police are investigating this case as suspected murder. His fiancee Siya Goyal and her friend Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested and are currently in police custody pending the investigation.
