Nihang Singh organizations today started the Khalsa Tax campaign on the Kiratpur-Manali National Highway in protest against the entry tax imposed in the border areas by the Himachal Pradesh government. This symbolic action was taken near Gada Mora toll plaza under the leadership of Baba Achar Singh Mahakal. On June 1, farmer organizations, taxi unions, residents of border areas and Nihang organizations entered Himachal Pradesh and blocked traffic for four hours in protest. On that occasion, Nihang Singhs had announced that if the Himachal government does not withdraw the Yegya tax, then Khalsa tax slips will be issued for the vehicles coming from Himachal to Punjab.
Today, implementing this announcement, Nihang organizations issued slips for vehicles coming from Himachal Pradesh. However, no fixed amount was fixed and donations of Rs 10, 20, 50 or 100 were taken as per the wishes of the drivers. Organizations say that the amount raised will be used for the welfare of all and to help the needy. Meanwhile, heavy police force was deployed at the spot under the leadership of police station chief Rahul Sharma.
‘These steps to wake up Himachal government’
The police administration appealed to maintain law and order by talking to Nihang Singhs and keeping an eye on the situation. Baba Achar Singh Mahakal said that this protest and ‘Khalsa Tax’ campaign is a symbolic step to awaken the Himachal government. He said that the struggle will continue until the entry tax imposed in the border areas is abolished. Till the time of writing this article, talks were going on between the police administration and Nihang organizations. During this time, many drivers also contributed voluntarily in the interest of everyone.
