The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a spy supported by Pakistan. This spy is accused of secretly conveying confidential security related information to Pakistani Intelligence Officers (PIOs) as part of an anti-India terrorist conspiracy.
A ‘Look Out Circular’ had already been issued against Zafar Riaz alias Rizvi, a resident of Kolkata. But when he was taken into custody, the process of declaring him a ‘Proclaimed Offender’ (PO) was also going on. The accused, arrested under various sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), ‘Official Secrets Act’ and UAPA, was also married to a Pakistani citizen, and his children are also Pakistani citizens.
Been traveling to Pakistan for 20 years
The NIA investigation (Case RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI) has revealed that Zafar has already been convicted in a case of espionage under the IPS and ‘Official Secrets Act’. He was continuously traveling between India and Pakistan since 2005.
During one such visit, Pakistani Intelligence Officers (PIOs) contacted him and convinced him to carry out espionage activities in India by offering financial incentives and the promise of Pakistani citizenship.
Suspicion of providing OTP to Pakistan
To help others involved in espionage and terrorist activities, the accused had provided ‘one-time passwords’ (OTPs) of Indian mobile numbers to a Pakistani intelligence officer so that he could open WhatsApp accounts on those numbers.
He is also accused of using these accounts to secretly communicate with a person named ‘Motiram Jat’. Motiram Jat is also an accused in this case and he was also engaged in providing confidential security related information to Pakistani intelligence officers.
NI is continuing its investigation to trace other people involved in this espionage racket and expose the bigger plan behind this conspiracy.
