New twist in US-Iran talks, why was emergency session added to the talks?

Now a new issue has also been included in the peace talks between America and Iran starting in Switzerland. According to the report of American media CBS News, representatives of both the countries will hold a special emergency session on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. This meeting will be held as the first session of talks. America and Iran had signed a 14-point MoU on Wednesday. After this, peace talks were to start from Friday. But the talks were postponed due to the increasing fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran alleges that Israel is continuously attacking Lebanon and violating the ceasefire. For this reason, Iran had claimed that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz again. However, America rejected this claim. US President Donald Trump said that if a final agreement is not reached between the two countries, America may impose toll on this sea route in future.

Attacks stopped in Lebanon

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the army to stop attacks in Lebanon for the time being. After this, the way was cleared to carry forward peace talks. US Vice President JD Vance reached Switzerland on Saturday, while the Iranian delegation has already reached there.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry has also confirmed the arrival of Iranian representatives. Qatar and Pakistan are playing the role of mediator in the talks. Although Israel, Hezbollah and the Lebanese government are not part of this conversation, the conflict between them remains the main topic of discussion.

Change in America’s strategy

According to the report, America’s inclusion of this issue in the agenda of talks is considered a major change in its policy. Before the talks, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf remembered the children killed in the Minab school attack and Iranian martyrs. He said that keeping in mind the sacrifices of these people, Iran will protect its national interests in the talks with America.
