Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Most Six in IPL 2026: Cricket’s ‘Wonder Boy’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi finally did what everyone was eagerly waiting for. Rajasthan Royals’ 15-year-old opener Vaibhav broke the record of hitting most sixes in a single season of IPL. Vaibhav broke Chris Gayle’s record of 59 sixes while thrashing Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers in the eliminator match of IPL 2026. Since then, everyone has been congratulating Vaibhav and in this matter, he got the most special praise from veterans like Gayle, Andre Russell and Sanath Jayasuriya, who together have hit more than 2000 sixes.
Vaibhav broke Gayle’s record
Wednesday evening of 27th May in New Chandigarh Vaibhav Suryavanshi The bat caused a lot of destruction. Vaibhav scored a half-century in just 16 balls and then was out after scoring 97 runs in just 29 balls. He could not break Chris Gayle’s record of fastest century in 30 balls but definitely broke the record of sixes in an IPL season. Before this match, Vaibhav needed 7 sixes to do this feat. Vaibhav finally broke the record made in 2012 by hitting 8 sixes in the powerplay itself.
Gayle, Russell and Jayasuriya crazy about Vaibhav
Vaibhav hit a total of 12 sixes in his innings and has now created a new record with 65 sixes in one season of IPL, which can increase in Qualifier-2. Everyone was surprised by such hitting of this young batsman and everyone praised him. Gayle himself was also watching this match and as soon as Vaibhav broke his record, the West Indies legend congratulated him wholeheartedly and told him about the new six machine. It is no small thing to get such praise from Gayle, who holds the world record of most sixes in T20 cricket with 1056 sixes. But not only Gayle, but Andre Russell, who is equally famous for hitting sixes, and Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya also praised the young Indian batsman. Russell even responded to those who questioned his age.
Russell wrote, “Congratulations Youngster. Haters will say you’re not 15. Who cares. There are 30 year olds out there trying their best to do what you’re doing right now. Keep it up, I’m a big fan. Look at the ball and hit it.”

These records of IPL were also destroyed
- Not only the most number of sixes, but with this innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi also broke some other records in the IPL 2026 season. Vaibhav has now become the uncapped player (who has not made his international debut) who has scored the most runs in a season. He broke the record of his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal (626 runs, 2023). Vaibhav has scored 680 runs so far this season.
- On the basis of his 16-ball fifty, Vaibhav equaled Suresh Raina’s record of the fastest half-century in the IPL playoffs. Raina had done this feat in just 16 balls against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2014.
- Vaibhav hit 12 sixes in this match and thus the record of most sixes in an innings of a knockout or playoff match was also in the name of this young batsman. Vaibhav broke the record of current Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill (10 sixes vs Mumbai Indians, 2023). Incidentally, Vaibhav and Gill will face each other in Qualifier-2.
- Not only this, Vaibhav had hit 8 sixes in the powerplay itself. In the history of 19 seasons of IPL, no batsman had hit so many sixes in the powerplay before.
