New flight of diplomacy… From Qatar to America-Belgium, Foreign Minister S. is on a tour of 6 countries from today. Jaishankar

July 5, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will start his tour of four countries from Sunday. He will go to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman. There he will meet the foreign ministers and leaders of these countries. After this he will also go to America and Belgium, where important meetings of the United Nations and the European Union will be held. This visit is being seen as an attempt by New Delhi to continuously increase contacts with important partners in West Asia. These countries are important sources of energy and a large number of Indian communities also live here.

To deal with the problems arising due to the Iran-America conflict, India has tried to ensure uninterrupted supply of oil and gas from West Asia. After this, Jaishankar will go to New York, where on July 13, he will launch India’s official campaign for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2028-29.

Subsequently, he will visit Brussels to attend the third ministerial-level meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) on July 14-15 and interact with his counterparts from the EU and Belgium.

Completed a trip to two Caribbean countries

Foreign Minister S. Eight agreements were signed between India and Trinidad and Tobago in sectors such as tourism, healthcare, infrastructure and Ayurveda during Jaishankar’s two-day visit to the Caribbean country. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the two sides signed agreements on solar powering of Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CARICOM building, vector control, and upgrading the infrastructure of Nelson Island (where the Indian diaspora initially stayed). Also, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to establish an ‘Indian Chair’ on Ayurveda at the University of the West Indies.

Dr. Jaishankar held talks with Prime Minister Kamala Prasad-Bissessar and other senior leaders on enhancing bilateral cooperation and reviewed the progress made on the announcements made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Trinidad and Tobago last year. The discussions also included issues of cooperation in infrastructure, security, forensics, healthcare and capacity building.
