Google Gemini Thinking Mode: Google has released a major update for its AI chatbot Gemini. The company has started rolling out new thinking levels on Android, iOS and web platforms. Under this update, users will get a new mode called “Extended Thinking”, which will allow them to take more time and think deeply before answering. Google claims that with this the answers given by AI will be better and more accurate than before. The special thing is that this feature is being made available to both free and paid users in many countries including India.
New thinking levels added to Gemini
Giving information on X, Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google’s Gemini and AI Studio, said that the company has started the rollout of new thinking levels for Android, iOS and browser versions of the Gemini app. This facility is being made available in Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite, Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro models. In India too, both free and paid users can use this feature. Generally, two thinking levels are provided in these models, which prepare answers as per the needs of the users. Google believes that different thinking levels will help AI better understand questions and provide more useful answers.
Extended thinking will give better answers
The biggest feature of the new update is Extended Thinking Mode. According to Google, this mode has been specially designed to solve complex problems and difficult questions. While Normal Mode can answer most questions immediately, Extended Thinking Mode takes extra time and does in-depth analysis. According to reports, this feature may be able to give more detailed and quality answers than before. Although there is no complete guarantee of better results, the company believes that this mode will help in providing more accurate and useful information to the users. Users doing research, study and professional work can benefit from this.

The video shared by Google also shows the third thinking level “Deep Think” for the Gemini 3.1 Pro model. The company claims that this feature gives maximum parallel reasoning capability, allowing AI to think and analyze at multiple levels simultaneously. However, currently this feature is available only for Google AI Ultra subscribers. This update has come at a time when Google recently introduced many new features of the Gemini app in its developer conference Google I/O 2026. The company has also introduced the Gemini 3.5 series, in which Gemini 3.5 Flash is currently available, while Gemini 3.5 Pro is set to be launched this month. The new models will replace the existing Gemini 3.1 Pro and will further improve the AI experience.
