The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has assured the students that all the updated textbooks will be released soon. NCERT has issued a clarification on the issue of shortage of textbooks. The council said it is being assured that there will be no further disruption in the supply of new textbooks, whether through its vendor network, online platforms, or Strategic Distribution Centers (SDCs).
NCERT Has said that the distribution system is being strengthened on a large scale to ensure adequate availability of new textbooks prepared in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across the country.
According to NCERT, the new books are being supplied through its vendor network, its own sales centres, online sales portals, various e-commerce platforms and strategic distribution centers (SDCs) set up in collaboration with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC).
90 lakh books of class nine were made available
NCERT said that books under the new syllabus are being published in a phased manner. This year, more than 90 lakh textbooks of nine subjects of class 9 have been published and made available across the country.
Except the Social Science book, all the books have reached the students. The book on Social Science is also almost ready for publication and will be available soon.
NCERT acknowledged that the new curriculum may see temporary and local shortages in the supply of books in some areas. However, NCERT assured that the situation is being continuously monitored and the supply is being increased as per the demand, so that the students do not face any inconvenience.
Delay due to new curriculum
NCERT said the delay has happened because “a new curriculum based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been introduced.”
The council also said that “books for different stages are being published in a graded manner.” The council said that although this process may cause temporary disruptions in some areas, efforts are being made to make up for any shortfall in supply as quickly as possible.
The issue of textbook shortages had created concerns among parents, students and schools in several states, many of which reported difficulties. The Council reiterated its commitment to ensure that every student gets timely quality learning resources under the new education framework.
