Iran has reacted sharply to US President Trump’s statement regarding the funeral of late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Attacking Trump, Iran said that they Cannot understand these things, because they have neither civilization, nor history, nor respect. However, he said that no such step can be taken as diplomatic efforts are ongoing. “They’re all out there. Trump He also said he was surprised to see so many people mourning Khamenei, as he believed many Iranians were against him. “Maybe these are fake tears,” the outlet quoted him as saying. Responding sharply to Trump’s statement, the Iranian Embassy in Armenia criticized both Trump and the US in a post on Twitter.

Iran angry over Trump’s statement

It said America, which celebrated the 250th anniversary of its independence on July 4, could never understand such great grief over Ali Khamenei’s death, because it has “neither civilization, nor history, nor honor.”

“People can be killed, but not ideals. You killed Ayatollah Khamenei, but in reality, you broke a perfume bottle whose fragrance spread everywhere. You do not understand these things because you have neither civilization, nor history, nor respect,” the embassy said, pointing to the huge crowd gathered for the late leader’s funeral.

Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies began on Saturday and are scheduled to last for several days. Authorities closed roads, restricted airspace and halted everyday life in Tehran as people gathered to pay tribute to the slain Supreme Leader.

Flood at Ali Khamenei’s funeral

Sunday was declared a public holiday throughout Iran. Later, Khamenei’s body will be taken to the Grand Mosallah complex, where he lies in state honors. A funeral procession will be taken out in the capital on Monday.

Khamenei’s coffin, covered with an Iranian flag and topped by his black turban, was placed alongside the coffins of four relatives killed in the February attacks, including his young granddaughter.

Iranian officials said they expected more than 10 million people to attend the funeral in Tehran. After the ceremony in the capital, Khamenei’s body will be taken to cities across Iran as well as neighboring Iraq.
