Nehru addressed 3 foreign parliaments during his tenure, PM Modi addressed 19 so far

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed 19 parliaments of different countries of the world between 2014 and 2026. This is the biggest record made by any Indian Prime Minister. BJP said on Friday that Modi has given more speeches in foreign parliaments than any previous Indian Prime Minister. The party called it proof of India’s growing global power, diplomatic influence and international prestige. BJP said on social media platform

According to the party, this achievement shows that India’s voice in the world has become stronger than before. According to statistics, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru addressed 3 foreign parliaments during his tenure. Indira Gandhi gave 4 speeches, Manmohan Singh 7, while Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave 2 speeches each in foreign parliaments.

Address in the Parliament of 4 countries in 2014

Shortly after becoming Prime Minister, in 2014, Narendra Modi addressed the parliaments of Australia, Fiji, Nepal and Bhutan. After this, in 2015, he gave speeches in the National Assembly of Mauritius, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Parliament of Mongolia and Parliament of Britain.

In December 2015, Modi addressed the Parliament of Afghanistan. In June 2016, he addressed a joint session of the US Congress for the first time, which is considered one of his most famous foreign speeches. After this, in 2018 he gave a speech in the Parliament of Uganda and in 2019 in the Parliament of Maldives.

In the year 2023, Modi addressed the joint session of the US Congress for the second time. There he had said that India is the mother of democracy and democracy promotes debate, dialogue and freedom of expression. According to BJP, Modi addressed the Parliament of Guyana in 2024. In July 2025, he gave speeches in the parliaments of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Namibia. After this he also addressed the Ethiopian Parliament.

PM Modi has made 99 foreign trips

Recently, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. During this, he mentioned the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023 and expressed condolences for the killed Israeli citizens. He was also given the highest honor of the Israeli Parliament. Till February 2026, Prime Minister Modi has made 99 foreign trips to 79 countries. His speeches in foreign parliaments show India’s growing global role and international influence.
