The petition filed regarding NEET-UG 2026 examination was heard in the Supreme Court on Monday (May 25). On the petition of Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) and United Doctors Front, the court has issued notice to the Central Government, National Testing Agency (NTA) and CBI and sought their response. The next hearing on the case will be held on Friday (May 29).
Before the special bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe, advocate Tanvi Dubey, on behalf of the petitioners, presented complaints related to the conduct of the examination and sought immediate intervention of the court. In these petitions, there has been a demand to conduct the re-examination process of NEET under judicial supervision.
demand in petition
The petition has demanded that the entire process of re-conducting NEET-UG 2026 should be monitored by a high-powered committee, which will be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court. There has been a demand to include a cyber security expert and a forensic scientist in this committee.
The petition has demanded that until the new independent examination body (NEIC) is formally formed, the re-examination of NEET-UG should be conducted under the supervision of this judicial committee. The petition has also demanded that the centre-wise results of NEET be made public, so that any unusual pattern or irregularities can be detected in a transparent manner.
Supreme Court’s strict comment
While hearing the petition, the Supreme Court expressed serious concern over the credibility of the examination system. During this, the court commented in a strict tone that it seems that the concerned institutions have not yet learned any lesson from the previous controversies. The bench said that it is very unfortunate that there is an earlier order of the Supreme Court in the same matter.
During the hearing, the court asked sharp questions to NTA and reminded that after the NEET 2024 controversy, a monitoring committee was formed, whose recommendations were also accepted. The court has now directed NTA to file a detailed counter affidavit, in which it will have to explain how the recommendations of that committee were implemented on the ground.
Next hearing will be on 29th May
The petitioners have demanded from the court that NTA should be completely dissolved and an independent examination body should be formed and the NEET exam should be completely shifted to computer-based (CBT) format to prevent paper leaks. The Supreme Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to file its affidavit within three days. Now the next hearing of this case will be on May 29.
