Nautapa begins when Lord Sun transits in Rohini Nakshatra. This lasts for nine days. It is said that at this time the energy of Sun God is intense. During this time the sun’s rays fall directly on the earth. Therefore, there is severe heat during this period.
For nine days of Nautapa, the sun rains fire from the sky. Therefore, in ancient times, people used to change their daily routine during Nautapa. This year Nautapa is going to start from 25th May, which will continue till 02nd June. In religious texts, Ayurveda and folk traditions, it has been said to follow certain rules during Nautapa. So that balance is maintained between body, mind and nature.

Give water to the sun: Worship of Sun God in Nautapa is considered very special. During this time, offer Arghya to the Sun with a copper pot in the morning. It is believed that this increases positive energy and mental strength.
Don’t waste water: Water is considered the basis of life. In ancient times, people considered wastage of water inauspicious. During Nautapa, one gets virtue by setting up ponds, keeping water for birds and providing water to the needy.
Do not go out in the afternoon: It is very hot during Nautapa, hence it is advised not to go out in the afternoon unless necessary.
Eat healthy food: Eat light and healthy food during Nautapa. Too much fried, stale and very spicy food increases laziness in summer.
Do not cut trees: Do not cut trees or harm plants during Nautapa. It is considered inauspicious in folk beliefs, because it is believed that the condition of nature is most sensitive at this time.
Do not get angry: During the intense energy of the Sun, mental condition can deteriorate due to excessive anger, stress and dispute, hence do not get too angry during Nautapa.
Serve living beings: Serve living beings in Nautapa. Keep food and water for birds on the terrace or courtyard of the house.
