Karnataka News: In Bengaluru, Karnataka, public anger has once again been seen on the streets regarding the problems faced by the general public in the name of VIP security. There was a huge uproar on Old Airport Road when traffic was reportedly stopped for about 30 minutes to allow the Governor’s convoy to pass through. A man stuck in this traffic jam along with his pregnant wife lost his patience and sat on strike in the middle of the road to protest. The video of this incident is becoming increasingly viral on social media, after which there is a stir in the police department.
Due to underpass construction work on Old Airport Road, the road has already become narrow and people are facing traffic jam daily. The trouble increased on this route on Sunday afternoon when the Governor’s convoy was about to pass. A video was posted on the social media platform
‘My wife is pregnant and the Governor is still at the airport…’
In the viral video, it can be clearly seen that a person sits on the zebra crossing near ISRO junction and starts arguing with the traffic policemen on duty. The man alleged that his wife was pregnant and she was sitting in the car. Whereas the police has stopped the traffic at the signal since the Governor had not even left the HAL airport. According to netizens, the man was taking his wife to the hospital and due to construction work there was no alternative route available.
Information given to Hoysala Police, then the person was removed
After the man sat in protest in the middle of the road, he had a heated argument with the on-duty traffic police. Seeing the situation worsening, the traffic police immediately alerted the ‘Hoysala Police’ (Emergency Response Vehicle). After persuasion and intervention of the police, the person got up from the road and the way could be cleared for the Governor’s convoy. This incident has once again sparked a serious debate on social media whether it is right to put the comfort of common citizens, especially emergency patients and pregnant women, at stake in the name of safety of dignitaries?
Police claim – impossible to stop for 30 minutes, still investigation ordered
The police have a slightly different stance on this entire matter. Traffic police say that the possibility of any vehicle being stopped for 30 minutes for VIP movement is negligible. However, in view of the increasing public anger on social media, the police has started an official investigation into the matter.
A senior police officer said, “An investigation has been ordered into the claims made online. An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) is investigating the entire matter. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Jeevan Bima Nagar traffic police station. We are scanning all the CCTV footage from HAL airport to the location where the protest took place. If the investigation finds that the vehicles were indeed stopped for 30 minutes, then strict action will be taken against the officials responsible.”
