Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) is once again going through a period of political turmoil. The movement that started against the problems of the common people and the policies of the government has now reached a new turn. The ‘Muzaffarabad Chalo’ long march proposed on July 15 has been postponed for the time being, but it is not being considered as the return of the movement. Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which is leading the movement, has clearly warned the Pakistan government that if concrete action is not taken on their demands by July 21, then large-scale protests and long marches will be started again in the entire PoJK.
JAAC says it has stopped the march to give the government another chance for talks and a solution. According to the organization, people are facing problems related to inflation, electricity rates, taxes and administrative decisions. He alleges that the government had made many promises earlier also, but they were not fully implemented. For this reason, resentment among people is continuously increasing. In this march that started from Rawalakot, thousands of people are demanding their rights while raising slogans against the Pakistan government.
Chance has been given till 21st July
The organization has clarified that July 21 is the last deadline from its side. If by then the government does not take satisfactory steps on their demands, then the movement will be further intensified in the entire area. JAAC has appealed to the people to remain calm for the time being, but has also asked them to be prepared for agitation. Anti-government protests have been taking place from time to time in PoJK for some time. People’s anger has been continuously coming to the fore regarding demands like relief in electricity bills, control on inflation, reduction in taxes and better administration.
There may be a large scale demonstration
Last year also there were big demonstrations regarding these issues, after which the Pakistan government had announced some relief packages. However, the protesting organizations say that many promises are still unfulfilled. Now everyone’s eyes are fixed on July 21. If an agreement is reached between the government and JAAC, then the currently postponed movement may end. But if the talks fail, then once again massive protests and ‘Muzaffarabad Chalo’ long march are likely to start in PoJK, which may further tense the political atmosphere there.
