But do you know that the film which proved to be a hit at the box office was given the tag of flop before its release.
Yes, film maker Rajkumar Hirani himself has revealed this regarding the film. Hirani told that this thing was said when Sanjay Dutt was cast in the film. At that time Sanjay Dutt used to do mostly action films. In such a situation, people believed that the audience might not like him in a comedy role.
Why did Munna Bhai get the tag of flop?
Rajkumar Hirani had recently revealed this in a conversation with Sanjay Arora. He told- “I remember when the film was completed and we had organized a trial show. Only a few people were called to watch it, including the director. After watching the movie, he told me, what have you done? You have made a disaster. Sanjay Dutt is an action hero and you have made a comedy film with him and that too has been shot in the hospital. You have also shot all the songs here. One song should have been shot abroad.”
Rajkumar Hirani further said, “He told me that this film should have been more colourful. The characters should also have been dressed in colorful clothes. What is this, everyone has been made to wear hospital uniforms?”
How was the audience’s reaction on the first day of release?
Sharing another interesting incident, Hirani said, “On the day of the film’s release, we reached the Gaiety Galaxy Theatre. While going inside, I asked the gatekeeper what was the reaction of the people towards the film. He gave a thumbs down gesture. At that moment my heart sank a little and I thought that perhaps the audience was not liking the film.”
Shows started becoming housefull within 1 day
Rajkumar Hirani further said, “When I went inside the theater, I saw that only about 50 percent of the seats were filled. Then I understood that the gatekeeper did not mean the film being bad, rather he was saying that the show is not housefull. This is the biggest thing for a ticket seller. But inside I saw that the audience was enjoying the film a lot. That day I went to many theaters and gradually the praise for the film started spreading among the people. Mouth The effect of the publicity was such that by the evening the show of ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ started becoming housefull.
