Precious earrings worth Rs 1.35 crore were stolen from Sahar Police Station in Mumbai. The police have registered a case against an unknown person in this matter. The complainant is a 41 year old woman named Savleen Singh. She works as a makeup artist. She has been working with fashion icon and filmmaker Rhea Kapoor for the last seven years and does makeup at her fashion events.
According to the complaint, Rhea Kapoor had received an invitation to attend the big fashion event Met Gala to be held in New York on 29 April 2026. The makeup team was also going with him. Two pairs of expensive earrings rented for Rhea from Mumbai’s Mehta and Goenka Jewelers were handed over to Savleen Singh, which she kept in her handbag.
What about the stolen jewellery?
The complainant and his team left on an Emirates flight from Mumbai to New York via Dubai at 10:25 pm on 27 April 2026. The team reached John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at around 5:30 pm on 28 April 2026. After this all the members went to their respective rooms in Hotel Pier, New York.
When the complainant took out both the boxes of earrings from her purse and opened them to give them to team member Shireen Madam, the earrings were not present in them. It is suspected that during the journey some unknown person stole both the pairs of earrings.
The stolen jewelery included gold earrings studded with emerald stones and diamonds from Mehta Jewellers, whose estimated value is Rs 66 lakh. Zambian emerald stone and gold border earrings from Goenka Jewellers, which are estimated to be worth Rs 69 lakh. The total value of both the jewelery is said to be around Rs 1 crore 35 lakh.
Sahar police has registered a case against unknown accused and started investigation. Police are trying to find out whether the theft took place during the flight from Mumbai to Dubai, Dubai to New York or at some other place after that.
