Muharram 2026 Ashura: These days the holy month of Muharram is going on in Islam religion. Today is the tenth day of Muharram month and Ashura is being celebrated today. The first 10 days of Muharram are full of sorrow and mourning. Tajiyas are taken out on the 10th day of Muharram i.e. on the day of Ashura. This war was fought to protect our principles in the face of power. 10 Muharram i.e. Ashura is considered to be that page of history, when despite hunger and thirst, the voice of rights did not become silent, but became immortal forever. Actually, in the early period of Islam, the leader i.e. Caliph was elected by mutual consent, but a ruler named Muawiya changed this rule.
Imam Hussain did not accept the authority of Yazid
He broke the peace agreement between Muawiya and Hasan Ibn Ali, in which it was clearly stated that Muawiya would not hand over succession to anyone after him, but even after this, Muawiya appointed his son Yazid as his successor. Yazid started adopting corruption and repressive policies contrary to the teachings given by Prophet Mohammad. Imam Hussain was a very noble and respectable person. He did not accept the authority of Yazid.
He clearly said that he cannot accept the rule of a person who is changing the basic principles of Islam. Then the people of Kufa city of Iraq called Imam Hussein to lead them. The Imam set out there with 72 companions from his family, but Yazid had already sent a cruel officer, Ubaidullah Ibn Ziyad, there and intimidated the people.
Chose the path of sacrifice along with his 72 comrades.
The effect of this was that the people who called the Imam turned against him. As soon as Imam Hussain reached the scorching plains of Karbala, he was surrounded by Yazid’s army. Even the water of Euphrates River was closed to the Imam’s family and innocent children by his army. After this, on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, the Imam and his 72 companions chose the path of sacrifice. In this war, the Imam’s young son, his brother and even his six-month old innocent child were martyred. In the end Imam Hussain was also martyred.
