June 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Kushinagar News: A very surprising and thrilling case has come to light from Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Here, during digging of soil in a field in Taryasujan area, an ancient brass pitcher was found, which was filled with hundreds of historical silver coins. The pot broke as soon as it came out and the precious coins scattered in the field. As soon as this news spread, there was a sensation in the entire area and a huge crowd of villagers gathered to collect the coins. The situation became so out of control that people kept digging the fields with hoes till late night. Later the police reached the spot and took control of the situation.

This interesting incident took place in Tola Ojhwalia of Gram Sabha Gopalpur of Taryasujan police station area. Soil digging work was going on in the field of Radheshyam Verma, resident here. During this time, an old brass pot buried underground was found. The pot was quite dilapidated, due to which it broke as soon as it came out and the ancient silver coins hidden in it scattered on the ground.

Looking at the preliminary investigation and the design of the coins, it is being estimated that these coins are from around the year 1640 AD (Mughal period). There is some writing in Arabic, Urdu or Persian script on these coins, due to which there is every possibility of their being of ancient and historical importance. However, the actual period and historicity of these coins can be accurately confirmed only after the report of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Villagers gathered with hoes in the dark of night, looting took place

The news of finding ancient treasure in the field spread like wildfire throughout the village and surrounding areas. Within no time a crowd of hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot. There was a competition among the people to take possession of the coins. According to farm owner Radheshyam Verma, after the pot broke, the tractor drivers and villagers present there picked up most of the coins. The situation was such that after the incident, the villagers kept digging the fields with hoes in the torchlight till late night so that they could get some coins in their hands.

Police took charge, farm owner handed over 330 coins

As soon as the information was received, Taryasujan police station in-charge Nitin Raghunath Srivastava reached the spot with the police team. Due to darkness of night and heavy crowd, the situation could not be completely clear on the first day. The next day, when the police started in-depth interrogation, farm owner Radheshyam Verma showed honesty and voluntarily handed over all the 330 silver coins he had to the police.

The police is now busy identifying the villagers and tractor drivers who have picked up the coins from the spot and taken them with them. The administration has also appealed to the villagers that this is a national heritage, hence whoever has these coins should voluntarily hand them over to the police or administration, otherwise legal action can be taken.
