MT Jalveer attack: 20 Indian crew members out of trouble, leave for India from Muscat

June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

MT Jalveer was attacked on June 11 in the Strait of Hormuz. After this attack, now 20 Indian crew members present on the ship are being brought back to India from Muscat. India’s Ambassador to Oman shared pictures of the conversation he had with the crew members before their return on social media. He said, “Interacted with Omani authorities following the incident with the ship on 11 June 2026. Then, the crew members were safely brought ashore. The Indian Embassy takes the responsibility of providing immediate help and support to the Indian nationals in distress and their safe return home.”

Three Indian sailors went missing in the attack on Palau-flagged tanker MT Setebello. His death has been confirmed. A day after this incident, India officially expressed its displeasure. New Delhi expressed deep concern over the continuous attacks on ships carrying Indian sailors near Oman. India strongly opposed attacks on civilian ships. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, deadly attacks on civilian ships are absolutely unacceptable. These actions endanger the security of international maritime trade.

Ambassador of India to Oman interacted with the 20 Indian crew members of MT Jalveer in Muscat ahead of their repatriation to India and wished them a safe journey home.

3 Indian sailors died

This growing diplomatic dispute has happened due to the increased tension between America and Iran in the area of the Strait of Hormuz. Due to increasing tension between the two, many attacks took place on commercial ships. The most serious incident among these is that of a tanker named MT Setebello. This tanker was carrying 24 Indian sailors. Last week this tanker collided in an American attack near the coast of Oman.

Indian and Omani officials jointly conducted a rescue operation, in which 21 sailors were rescued safely. But, later 3 sailors died. Immediately after this incident, New Delhi summoned the American diplomat on Wednesday and said that such attacks should stop immediately.
