India-Pakistan war has always been an evergreen subject of our films. Recently, films like Dhurandhar etc. filled the audience with excitement and enthusiasm. Every Indian likes to see Pakistan getting defeated on the silver screen as well as on the border. This is the reason whether it is Sunny Deol’s Gadar or Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar – both the films achieved record success at the box office. You all will remember Dharmendra’s last film ‘Ikkis 1’ which released in the beginning of January 2026. Although it was a story of bravery of martyred Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal based on the Battle of Basantar in 1971, but Dharmendra’s character lives on with the help of memories. Madanlal Khetrapal visits his ancestral village inside Pakistan and remembers his childhood before partition, along with his former girlfriend. These memories make him emotional. The pain of partition stings here too.

The tragedy of Partition and its emotional memories are going to be seen in more detail in Partition 1947, which is going to be released on the occasion of Independence Day. If we go back a little, we can see a long list of many such films based on the India-Pakistan partition in history, which have achieved the same success as the India-Pakistan war films. For example, Raj Kapoor’s 1960 Chhaliya, Ashok Kumar’s 1961 Dhartiputra, 1973’s Garm Hawa directed by MS Sathyu, Deepa Mehta’s 1947 Earth, Pamela Rooks’s Train to Pakistan in 1998 which was based on Khushwant Singh’s book, Anil Sharma directed 2001 blockbuster Gadar-Ek Prem Katha starring Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri.
