June 6, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The film 'Mohabbatein' released in the year 2000 was directed by Aditya Chopra, in which there were two amazing actors like Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Veer-Zaara, released in 2004, was also an amazing film. Both of these are known as one of the most brilliant films of Bollywood.
'Veer-Zara', released in 2004, was an emotional love story, which was directed by Yash Chopra himself after a long break of 7 years. Apart from Shahrukh, this film had great actors like Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Manoj Bajpayee.
Talking about the budget, the film 'Mohabbatein', made with a budget of around Rs 19 crores, created a huge stir in the theaters at that time. As soon as it was released, 'Mohabbatein' proved to be a superhit at the box office and made a great collection of around Rs 90 crore worldwide.
The film 'Veer-Zaara', based on the love story of India and Pakistan, which came four years later, was made with a big budget of around Rs 23 to 25 crores. 'Veer-Zaara' made huge profits at the box office and collected around Rs 95 to 98 crores from all over the world.
Due to its excellent earnings, 'Veer-Zaara' became the number one highest grossing Indian film of the year 2004. Although there was a difference of only a few crores between the two films, 'Veer-Zaara' had left 'Mohabbatein' behind in terms of total worldwide collection.
Along with the earnings, the music of both these films also broke records. The famous violin signature tune of 'Mohabbatein' and old Madan Mohan songs of 'Veer-Zaara' had made people crazy. Even today people listen to the songs of both the films with the same enthusiasm.
There was a tough competition between the two in terms of awards too, where 'Veer-Zaara' got the Filmfare Award for Best Film that year, while Amitabh Bachchan got the Best Supporting Actor Award for 'Mohabbatein'. Both these films made under the Yash Raj banner gave a new and big identity to Indian cinema in the whole world at that time.
