June 19, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Nowadays, from the time we open our eyes in the morning till we sleep at night, our mobile does not leave our hands. Be it office work or watching reels, our screen time is continuously increasing. But do you know that this mobile addiction is taking away the natural moisture of your eyes? Nowadays, cases of dry eye syndrome are increasing rapidly in OPD and the biggest reason for this is our smartphones. Be it an adult or a child, everyone wakes up with their mobile in the morning and people remain busy screening it for a long time before sleeping at night. Talking about children, they do not eat food without looking at their mobile.

Many researches have revealed that the digestive system of children who eat food while watching mobile remains impaired. Because of this, their growth also does not happen properly. Here we are going to tell you about the dry eye syndrome that increases due to this.

How does the problem of dry eye syndrome increase?

Dr. Vivek Garg, HOD, Ophthalmology Department, BLK Max Hospital It is said that actually, a layer of tears is necessary to keep our eyes healthy. Normally we blink about 15 to 20 times in a minute, due to which the eyes remain moist. According to doctors, when we are watching an interesting video or work on the mobile screen, our attention becomes so focused that we forget to blink.

In such a situation, the rate of blinking reduces to only 5 to 7 times. The result is that the water in the eyes starts drying up rapidly. Some of its main symptoms are constant stinging, burning or dryness in the eyes, redness of the eyes, feeling of heaviness and sudden blurring of vision while watching the screen.

20-20-20 formula

If your work cannot go on without a mobile or laptop, then doctors recommend adopting the 20-20-20 formula. Under this, after every 20 minutes of work, take a short break of 20 seconds and look at something at least 20 feet away from your screen. Also, keep blinking intentionally while looking at the screen.

Do not use your mobile at all after switching off the room lights at night, because the screen light causes the most harm to the eyes in the dark. If the problem is severe then consult an eye specialist without any delay.
