The work of giving Hollywood Walk of Fame stars is mainly done by the ‘Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’. Every year in the month of June a special ‘Walk of Fame Selection Committee’ meets. This committee includes experts from different fields of the entertainment world (film, TV, music) and already star artists. They select only 24 to 30 artists every year out of the 200 to 300 applications received. After the name is selected, the board of directors of the ‘Hollywood Chamber’ and finally the government department of the city of Los Angeles gives it the final approval.
To get a star, the artist must have an excellent record in that field for at least 5 years. Also, the artist has to give consent in writing that he will be personally present on this occasion. After getting the star, a huge sponsorship fee has to be paid for its construction, installation and lifetime maintenance. This fee is around $75,000 to $85,000 i.e. Rs 71 to 81 lakh, which is usually paid by the artist’s production house, fan club, record label or movie studio.
