Middle East tension: Iran claims- Cruise missiles fired at Amazon AWS data center

July 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the Aerospace Force targeted and destroyed the central data infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Bahrain with multiple cruise missiles. This is the second time this year that Iran has claimed to attack Amazon-related infrastructure. This claim has not been separately verified nor has any official statement been issued by Amazon or Bahraini officials.

According to reports by Al Jazeera and Iran’s official IRGC news outlet Sepah News, the attack was carried out as part of the 24th phase of a military campaign named Operation Nasr 2. In an official statement, the IRGC claimed that US air defense systems and radar installations in the Bahraini areas of Muharraq and Riffa, along with Amazon’s data infrastructure, were also targeted by multiple cruise missiles.

Attack on Amazon data infrastructure

In the statement, the IRGC said Bahrain’s attack was in retaliation for yesterday’s US military attack on civilian facilities being built in Darkhovin, Iran. WANA’s Iranian government report said the announcement was made in Statement No. 39, which stated that multiple cruise missiles had been fired at Amazon’s data infrastructure and that more details about the operation would be provided later.

This new claim comes a few months after Iran’s statement in which it had earlier said that it had attacked an Amazon-related facility in Bahrain in the early stages of the conflict with the US. This is the second time that Tehran has claimed to target the infrastructure of a big US tech company in the Gulf.

While Tehran claims it targeted Amazon infrastructure as well as a US military base in Bahrain, Bahrain’s military said it intercepted and destroyed several incoming projectiles. According to Al Jazeera’s report, Bahraini authorities have not confirmed any attack on any Amazon facility and there has been no official confirmation of any damage.

This attack has taken place at a time when despite diplomatic efforts to reduce tension between Iran and America, the fighting continues for the tenth consecutive day. As the US increased attacks on Iranian military and strategic sites, Tehran warned that it could target sites in neighboring countries used by the US military.
