Meenakshi Natarajan will not be able to go to Rajya Sabha, what information did the Congress leader hide due to which the nomination was cancelled?

June 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

A big political controversy has come to light in the Rajya Sabha election process of Madhya Pradesh. The nomination of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan has been rejected by the Returning Officer. BJP had alleged that Meenakshi Natarajan had hidden information about a pending judicial case in her nomination papers. At the same time, Congress says that there is no FIR or criminal case registered against him, hence it was not mandatory to give such information. There is heat in the state regarding this issue.

Actually, the root of this controversy lies in a case related to Telangana in 2022. A woman asked Congress leader K. Shiva Kumar Reddy was accused of molestation, sexual harassment and threats. The woman claimed that she had also complained in this regard to the Congress leadership and the then Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. The woman alleged that despite the complaint, no concrete disciplinary action was taken by the party against the accused leader. Later this matter reached the court and Meenakshi Natarajan was also mentioned in the petition.

Arguments of BJP and Congress

BJP’s argument was that since Meenakshi Natarajan’s name is mentioned in the petition pending in the court, she should have given this information in the nomination papers. On the other hand, Congress said that neither any FIR nor any criminal case has been registered against Meenakshi Natarajan, hence it was not necessary to disclose this matter.

Questions before the returning officer

During the hearing, the complainant side also made allegations of not getting justice due to political influence and complaints being ignored. The main question before the Returning Officer was whether in case the name was mentioned in the pending petition, it was mandatory to give this information in the nomination form or not.

Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination rejected

Although no criminal charges have been proven against Meenakshi Natarajan, the Returning Officer rejected her nomination on the grounds of not providing necessary information in the nomination papers. After this decision, the politics of the state has heated up regarding Rajya Sabha elections. Congress is furious after the cancellation of Natarajan’s nomination.
