The Supreme Court has again ordered to provide security to inter-caste couples due to fear of honor killing. Apart from this, SC stayed the order of Rajasthan High Court. The High Court had earlier accepted the habeas corpus petition filed by the woman’s father. The Supreme Court issued notice to the Rajasthan government and others in this matter.
The bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuiyan and Arun Palli has given this order on the couple’s petition. The court said that such bad people should not be promoted. SC said, “They are harassing the couple, this is not right.” The Supreme Court had earlier also issued orders for his security. Actually, this incident happened in March this year, when the couple had an inter-caste marriage in Delhi. Their marriage was registered on 23 March 2026.
Despite the order, petition filed in Rajasthan HC
On April 30, Justice B.V. The bench of Justice Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan had disposed of his writ petition after getting assurance from the Uttar Pradesh authorities that he would be given full security at his in-laws’ house in Baghpat, where he was living since his marriage. Despite that order, the woman’s father later filed a habeas corpus petition in the Rajasthan High Court. After the High Court accepted the petition, the couple approached the Supreme Court.
Couple’s lawyer complains to Rajasthan Police
During the hearing, the couple’s lawyer complained that Rajasthan Police personnel were constantly present outside their house. The lawyer said, “He has been given security. But Rajasthan Police is deployed at his house. They are also going to the houses of all my relatives.”
Supreme Court expressed objection
The Supreme Court objected to this, after which the Rajasthan government’s lawyer assured the bench that the police would no longer go to the couple’s house. The court recorded this in its order today. Advocates Purnima Singh and Pradeep Kumar Arya appeared on behalf of the couple.
