After separating from Congress, he formed Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 1998, that too by breaking the people of Congress. After this he changed sides so many times that it became difficult to trust him. Sometimes she joined the BJP-led NDA and sometimes left the NDA in anger. He did similar things with the Congress led UPA also. When I saw the convenience, I joined NDA and when I saw the benefits in UPA, I changed sides. Each one used and discarded. Even Mamata Banerjee, who was most enthusiastic at the time of formation of India Block, kept defying the coalition dharma from time to time. This time on June 8, she again went to the India Block meeting. That too when neither the party nor power was left.
Therefore, this apprehension is not unfounded that she is useless even for the Congress, in such a situation where will she be used? But on the other hand, Mamata either took all the satraps of West Bengal Congress with her or paralyzed them. Now only Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary is the only big leader of Congress left there. But Rahul Gandhi’s courtiers do not like him. Then is it also Congress’s compulsion to accept Mamta? Because Congress is also standing at the crossroads. Thus, Sonia Gandhi has been considering Mamata as her younger sister. After all, Mamata Banerjee’s entry into the Lok Sabha was through Rajiv Gandhi. He was the one who brought him to the Lok Sabha. When Rajiv was the Congress General Secretary, his eyes fell on Mamata in West Bengal. He found this dynamic leader suitable for the future of Congress in the state. When Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister after the assassination of Indira ji, in the same year he gave ticket to Mamata from Jadavpur in the Lok Sabha elections.
Parliament’s firebrand leaders Mamata and Jayalalitha
There is no doubt that Mamata lived up to the expectations of Rajiv Gandhi. He defeated CPI(M) stalwart Somnath Chatterjee in Jadavpur. She was always trustworthy of Rajiv Gandhi. That is why Rajiv also made him the President of West Bengal Youth Congress. The period from 1984 to 1989 was when two firebrand women leaders were present in the Parliament. Mamata Banerjee from Congress and Jayalalitha from Anna DMK (AIADMK). Mamata was in the Lok Sabha and Jayalalitha was in the Rajya Sabha. Both were the Chief Ministers of their respective states and ran governments as per their wish. However, among these, Mamata Banerjee came out of Congress and it seems that she will be absorbed in Congress itself. She is also understanding that now the future of regional parties in Bengal is almost over. Three-fourth of the MLAs in his party are against him and the same number of MPs are also against him. Now she cannot stop the horse of BJP.
Affection towards Muslim and Bhadralok’s affection
If she joins Congress, Sonia Gandhi is her only hope because Rahul Gandhi’s advisors are taking her towards the Left parties. However, since 2019, Rahul is more inclined towards leftist ideas. This is the reason why Mamata Banerjee is making mistakes with Sonia Gandhi while Abhishek Banerjee has met Rahul Gandhi. However, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh is denying that Mamata Banerjee has met Sonia Gandhi. West Bengal Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary said that he is not aware of any such meeting. But Kirti Azad’s relations with Mamta have been good with the Sonia family. Although, before joining TMC, he had also been in the Delhi Assembly from BJP and had also won the Lok Sabha elections from Darbhanga in 2014. In 2015, Arun Jaitley expelled him from BJP. Then in 2019 he joined Congress. After this he joined TMC in 2022.

Apart from this, his father Bhagwat Jha Azad has also been the Chief Minister of Congress in Bihar. He was appointed by Chief Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 14 February 1988. He says whatever Didi does, she will do well. He is completely with Didi. All the political experts of West Bengal are assuming that Mamata Banerjee has now lost all her power in West Bengal. His party has disintegrated. Even Sayoni Ghosh, considered very close to him, is eager to join BJP. Kirti Azad and Shatrughan Sinha are with him.
State Congress unit and Left against Mamata
At such a time, if Mamata Banerjee joins Congress, her situation may improve but for this Congress may have to face opposition from all the big leaders of her party. The family of Abdul Ghani Khan Chaudhary (Barkat Da), a veteran Congress leader in Malda, was also wiped out this time. His niece Mausam Noor also lost the election from Malatipur assembly seat this time. He was defeated by TMC’s Abdur Rahim Bakshi. Barkat da’s family has been in Congress since 1957. For the first time his family has come clean. Therefore, merging with Mamata will increase discord within the state Congress. On the other hand, Mamata is also the target of left parties. They say, first clean Mamata, BJP will clean itself. Therefore, it is often speculated that the votes of Left parties are also behind this huge victory of BJP.
Country towards two-party system
But Mamata’s condition definitely indicates that it will be difficult for regional parties to survive in the coming days. As of today, AAP party is left alone in Punjab. In Andhra Pradesh, TDP is an ally of NDA, although TDP is in power. The work of TVK in Tamil Nadu also cannot run without Congress. Left parties are clean in the entire country. Their last stronghold Kerala also collapsed in the 2026 assembly elections. Similarly, in Jammu and Kashmir also, National Conference is a part of UPA. In a way, Punjab itself has a regional party on its own. Both the national parties BJP and Congress are unanimous in this matter that elections should be held between two parties. In future, if the One Nation One Election rule is passed, it will be successful only when the fight is between two parties. With this the public will also be happy that now elections will not be held every year.
