There has been such a mistake by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce, which has sparked political debate across the country. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s name is missing from the list of Chief Ministers of West Bengal released by the Chamber of Commerce, who have contributed in the field of industry. In a recent statement, the chamber mentioned the names of six former chief ministers, from Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy to Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who it said had personally given their blessings to chamber events, while Banerjee was clearly left out of the list.
The chamber also alleged that despite the support extended by it during the pandemic and cyclones, the attitude of Banerjee’s administration remained negative. The development comes at a time when BJP MP Shamik Bhattacharya, speaking in the same chamber, promised a new land policy and investment-friendly environment under the current double-engine government.
Mamata Banerjee missing from Chamber’s list
Bharat Chamber of Commerce in its message said, “Ten years ago, in the dignified presence of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, our institution ‘Bharat Chambers’ was inaugurated. During these years, among the Chief Ministers of West Bengal who were popularly known as ‘Sajjans’ were Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, P. C. Sen, Ajay Kumar Mukherjee, Siddhartha Shankar Roy, Jyoti Basu and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. All have visited our Chamber. “Personally gave his blessings to various memorable programs.”
The chamber also noted that the only exception was the leader who recently became the former chief minister of the state. While his predecessors tried to reach out to him, his attitude towards the chamber was described as negative. The chamber also claimed that despite extending support during the pandemic and cyclone-related disasters, it did not receive any policy support for industrial development.
Feel free to do your business – Shamik Bhattacharya
Responding to this omission and the broader industrial environment, BJP MP Shamik Bhattacharya said anyone wishing to set up industry in Bengal previously faced problems in acquiring land from farmers. He assured, “There was no proper land policy. We have started working on it. You can do your business without any hesitation, there will be no hindrance in it. You will not have to pay money to anyone. No extortion will be collected, the land policy will be finalized within a few months.”
Bhattacharya promised change in Bengal within 100 days
Speaking at the Chamber of Commerce, Bhattacharya said, “We will say invest here now. The work of making a policy related to land is going on. Many people want to invest. That is why work on the land policy is going on. We want more investment to come from outside. Within 100 days, businessmen will clearly see what changes are taking place. This is our firm promise. We want Bengal to become a preferred business destination for businessmen.”
