A large consignment of weapons has been seized in a joint operation of Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police near the India-Pakistan international border in Amritsar, Punjab. According to a senior police officer, security agencies have arrested one accused. And 26 sophisticated weapons including AK-47 rifle have been recovered from him.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Friday that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was working at the behest of a colleague sitting in Australia. It is being told that this handler present abroad had shared the drop location of the weapons through social media application. The job of the accused was to forward the consignment of weapons.
Arrest near international border
According to the information, the accused named Rohan Khosla, resident of Rupnagar Colony, Amritsar, was arrested near the India-Pakistan International Border (IB) in a joint operation of BSF Punjab and State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar. A consignment of weapons was recovered from him.

Weapons cache recovered
According to Punjab Police, the recovered weapons include one AK-47 rifle, fourteen 9mm pistols and eleven .30 bore pistols. These weapons belong to the companies Norinco, Star Mark, Glock, Zigana, Taurus and Walther. Along with this, 368 live cartridges and 48 magazines were also found. Apart from weapons, the team has also received a bullet-proof jacket made in America. The Punjab number car in which the accused was smuggling weapons has also been seized.
Weapons consignment dropped by drone
SSOC Amritsar’s Additional IG Sukhminder Singh Mann said that input was received from BSF that the consignment of weapons dropped by drone in Shahpur BOP area was being picked up. On this the team of SSOC and BSF stopped a Hyundai i20 car. During the search of the car, 25 pistols, one AK-47, cartridges, magazines and bullet-proof jacket were recovered.
Investigation revealed that the accused was doing local link work. He had to forward this consignment on the instructions of his associate based in Australia.
In this case, an FIR has been registered at SSOC Amritsar police station on Friday under the Arms Act, Indian Judicial Code (BNS) and Indian Aircraft Act.
Big success against arms smuggling
DGP Yadav has called it a big success against cross-border arms smuggling. He said that the investigation is going on to connect all the forward and backward links, identify the accomplices involved and dismantle the entire cross-border arms smuggling syndicate and terrorist network. The agencies are trying to find out who are the people involved in this arms syndicate and for what purpose it was to be used.
