Since the assembly elections in West Bengal, the political atmosphere there is continuously changing. Besides, Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress (TMC) are also facing continuous setbacks through resignations. Now the discussion is gaining momentum in the political circles there that a new Trinamool Congress party should be formed which does not have Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. This matter came to light when 2 TMC MLAs (Ritabrata Bandopadhyay and Sandipan Saha) were expelled from the party for raising their voice against the party (becoming whistleblowers) over the signature dispute.
After the party expelled two MLAs from the party, many people have now started asking whether preparations are being made to repeat the ‘Maharashtra Model’ in Bengal too? Are preparations going on to create a split in Trinamool like the one that happened in Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena in the year 2022?
50 MLAs ready to rebel
There has been turmoil in the politics of Bengal since the elections. Now, after the expulsion of both the MLAs, the possibility of a split is gaining further strength. There is also speculation that about 50 MLAs may separate from the Trinamool party. It is also being claimed that there are some MPs who are planning to show rebellious attitude and talks are going on in this regard.
A large number of MLAs kept their distance from the meeting called at the house of party chief Mamata Banerjee, while some MLAs are openly speaking against the top leadership of the party, apart from this, some are also being shown the door on the charges of being involved in anti-party activities.
Mamta’s allegation- BJP is scaring
Mamata Banerjee has blamed a faction within her own party as well as BJP for the infighting within the party. He alleged that BJP is trying to bring Trinamool MLAs and MPs to its side by intimidation and luring them with money. He also alleged that BJP is misusing the police and some leaders of his party are behaving like traitors.
Taking aim at the BJP government, Mamata claimed in a live video on Facebook, “Four MLAs had come to me with complaints that the police were intimidating them. They were also told that if they attended the meeting, they would be arrested under the ‘Arms Act’. What kind of democracy is this? All limits of oppression have crossed in this state.”
Preparation to claim ‘real Trinamool’
Earlier, at least 60 out of total 80 Trinamool MLAs remained absent from the meeting held in Kalighat on Saturday last week. An English website quoted sources as saying that at the same time, some MLAs had gathered at Rathin Ghosh’s house. Rathin is also among those MLAs who did not attend Mamata’s meeting. He says, “I was not well, so I could not attend the meeting.”
On the other hand, former national spokesperson Riju Dutta, who was suspended from the party, while talking to a Hindi website, claimed that more than 50 of the party’s 80 MLAs met at the Gateway Hotel and discussions were held to present the faction’s claim as the “real Trinamool”. He says that the alleged rebel group is planning to submit a new list to the Assembly Speaker and demand change in the post of Leader of Opposition.
