In the monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday, the issue of paper leaks continuously emerging in competitive examinations like NEET and TET resonated strongly. Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar launched a scathing attack on the state government, alleging that Maharashtra is getting a bad name in the entire country due to repeated incidents of paper leaks and the future of lakhs of students and teachers is in danger.
As soon as the House proceedings began, the opposition demanded an adjournment motion on this issue. During the discussion, Vijay Wadettiwar said that lakhs of students appear for the examination after years of hard work and preparation, but due to incidents of paper leaks, their hard work goes waste. He raised the question as to why the government is repeatedly failing to conduct the examinations in a transparent and safe manner.
‘Arrest of the accused is not enough’
Wadettiwar demanded a thorough investigation into the recent TET paper leak case and said that mere arrest of the accused is not enough. This racket should be exposed by investigating the paper preparing agencies, related companies and the entire network. He said that till now three accused have been arrested, but their connections with other states are also coming to light, which further increases the seriousness of the case.
Referring to the TET scam of 2018, he alleged that Abhishek Savarikar, the accused in that case, was later included in the BJP. He also raised the question as to why the name of “Crystal” company is coming up again and again in this case. Questioning the role of the government, he said that this raises doubts whether this is a government sponsored scam.
‘The opposition was not given a chance to present its views’
Wadettiwar demanded from the government that strict action should be taken against the culprits and concrete and effective system should be implemented to prevent such incidents in future, so that the confidence of the students can be restored. However, the opposition alleged that the government failed to give any clear and satisfactory answer on this serious issue. The opposition was not even given full opportunity to present its views. In protest against this, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs walked out of the House and registered their protest against the government. This sharp political confrontation in the Assembly over the issue of paper leak has once again raised serious questions on the credibility of the examination system and the accountability of the government.
