Mahaprabhu Jagannath Movie Release: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stay the release of the film ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’. While giving the verdict in the case, the court said that the court should not come in the way of art and creativity. Odisha government had filed a petition demanding a ban on the release of the animated film ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’, but the court maintained its previous order.
During the hearing, Justice B.V. Nagarathna said, “If there is so much sensitivity, and 2-3 people are filing a writ petition, then we will give such an order that no artwork on Hindu deities or mythological stories should be made in India… Every person has his own creativity. If we give such an order, then Ramayana and Mahabharata will all be stopped.”
This order was given on July 17
The Supreme Court had banned the release of the film during the hearing on July 17. At that time, the court in its decision had asked the producers to release the film after the Rath Yatra. The Rath Yatra ran from 16th July to 27th July. The court had approved the release of the film on or after July 28. However, now on the petition of Odisha government, the bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice R Mahadevan refused to change its order of July 17.
High Court had imposed ban, got relief from Supreme Court
Actually, the High Court had banned the release of the film ‘Lord Jagannath’. ‘Elle Animation Private Limited’ had approached the Supreme Court for relief in this matter. At that time the court had given relief to the makers. Later, the Odisha government again reached the Supreme Court to stop it, from where it got a shock.
