Ancient Curses, Modern Impact: The war of Mahabharata was not just a fight for power between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, but it was a conflict between religion and unrighteousness. In which religion won in the end. Mahabharata provides a lesson about many aspects of life such as karma, truth, relationships and the consequences of our decisions. There are many such moments in Mahabharata, where curses were given for lying or hiding the truth.
According to religious beliefs, the effect of the two curses given during the Mahabharata period is visible even in today’s time i.e. Kaliyuga. People see these as the consequences of their actions and a warning for life.
Yudhishthir had cursed women
During the Mahabharata war, after the killing of Karna, Pandavas’ mother Kunti had told a big secret to all the Pandavas including Yudhishthir. Mother Kunti had lamented and said that Karna was her own son. Pandavas were very hurt after knowing this and Yudhishthir got angry and cursed the entire female caste. He cursed the entire female caste and said that no woman would be able to keep any secret hidden. It is believed that the effect of this curse given by Yudhishthir is still there.
Shri Krishna cursed Ashwatthama
During the Mahabharata war, Ashwatthama had deceitfully killed all the sons of the Pandavas while they were sleeping. After this, when Pandavas reached the ashram of Maharishi Vedvyas in search of Ashwatthama, he fired Brahmastra. In response to this, Arjun also fired Brahmastra, but Vedvyas ji stopped both of them. Arjun took back his weapon, but could not do so to Ashwatthama. He folded the Brahmastra into the womb of Uttara. Angered by this, Shri Krishna cursed Ashwatthama.
Lord Shri Krishna cursed Ashwatthama and said that he would continue to wander on earth for thousands of years. It is believed that even in Kaliyuga, there is an effect of this curse of Shri Krishna and Ashwatthama is wandering on the earth.
