Mother Chamunda’s story: In the scriptures, Mother Chamunda has been described as the fierce form of Goddess Durga. Mother Chamunda is known as the power of destruction in this world. Secret worship of Maa Chamunda is done at many Shaktipeeths and tantric places in India. There is a tradition of special worship of Mother Goddess during Navratri. Mother Chamunda is remembered less because of love and more because of fear. There is a temple of Maa Chamunda in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, which is considered one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. It is believed that the feet of Mother Sati had fallen here. It is also called Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham. Mahedav is also present here along with his mother. According to a story of Markandeya Purana, there was a time when unrighteousness on earth had reached its peak due to demons. There was terror spread in all three worlds by two demons named Chand and Mund. He had defeated even the gods. The weapons of the gods had no effect against his mighty power. Then the gods prayed to Mother Durga. Hearing the prayers of the gods, Mother Durga entered the battlefield.

During the war, the anger of Mother Durga increased so much that a fierce flame came out from her forehead and from it emerged one of the fierce goddesses among the 64 Yoginis, whom the world knows as Mother Chamunda. Mother had black skin. Had messy hair. There was a skeleton like body, bulging veins and flames of fire in the eyes. Mother Chamunda had incarnated only with the purpose of completely destroying unrighteousness.

Chand and Mund were put to an end

Mother fought faster than the wind on the battlefield. He had a trident in one hand, a sword in the other, a spear in the third and a vessel filled with blood in the fourth. Within a few moments, the mother separated the heads of Chand and Mund from their bodies and reached Mother Durga. Then Mother Durga gave a boon to Mother Chamunda and said that from today you will be known as Chamunda. This world will know you as a force of destruction.
