Lohagarh Fort located in Maharashtra was once a major fort of Maratha rulers. This fort becomes an offbeat tourist spot during the rainy season. This is a great travel destination and there are many wonderful tourist spots around it. The height of this fort is about 1030 meters above sea level. This is a wonderful combination of natural beauty and old architecture. It is said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured it in 1648. Finally, during the Peshwa period, the famous leader Nana Fadnavis spent a long time here. It has four doors named Ganesh Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja and Maha Darwaja.

Its most attractive feature is the long and narrow fortified part which makes it look like the tail of a scorpion. Let us tell you important things related to this fort, and also know which tourist spots you can explore around it.

Best for tracking

A major reason to explore Lohagarh is the trekking done here. Its trekking starts from Malavali Railway Station which is about 10 kilometers away from here. This trek can be completed in about 2 to 3 hours. The path surrounded by greenery gives a different vibe. During this time you can also see Bhaja caves.

If you are going to see Lohagarh Fort, then there are many other tourist spots around it. One of these is Visapur Fort which is also known as the twin fort of Lohagarh Fort. Its trekking is a bit long and difficult but after reaching here the view seen touches the heart.

Bhaja caves are also in the list

It is said that about 22 rocks have been cut to prepare the ancient Buddhist caves. This is a group of caves built in the second century BC. Sculptures, paintings, inscriptions and stupas are present in these caves. Apart from this, you can also explore the Karla caves located nearby. Karla Cave also has a wooden ceiling and a large prayer hall.

Pavana Lake

This is an artificial lake which has been created by Pavana Dam. Camping, boating and fishing can be done on this reservoir. Apart from this, this tourist spot is a popular place for picnic. By the way, if you are going here then do not forget to visit Lonavala, the most popular hill station from Maharashtra. It is only 60 kilometers away from Lohagarh.

If you want to reach Lohagarh by road, then its distance from Mumbai is about 100 kilometers and from Pune this distance is 60 kilometers. It is easy to reach here from Mumbai-Pune Expressway. If you are coming here by train, you will have to get down at Malavli railway station. The fort is just 5 kilometers away from the station. However, one can reach here from Lonavala railway station also.
