After the ban, now this committee cannot contest elections in Pakistan. Citing the ban, the government can take strict action against the committee members. What is PoK Public Action Committee?
Shaukat Mir had formed this committee in the year 2024. This year, people there protested in Pakistan occupied Kashmir regarding the price of flour. Initially an attempt was made to suppress it, but Shaukat Mir and some of his colleagues became adamant, after which the government had to bow down.
After this, lakhs of people of PoK joined the Public Action Committee. The committee’s influence increased in the entire PoK. In September 2025, the committee called a protest in PoK on the issue of inflation. At that time the government deployed army in PoK to crush the rebellion.
Despite this, thousands of citizens of PoK had gathered at Lal Chowk in Muzaffarabad on the appeal of Shaukat Mir. In the end the government had to bow before these protesters. The government had accepted all the demands of the protesters at that time.
Who is Shaukat who is increasing the tension of the government?
Shaukat is a resident of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. After completing his studies from Kashmir University in PoK, Shaukat Mir came into the social sector. Shaukat started his politics through trade union. Shaukat has also come into limelight for ending VIP culture in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
This time Shaukat was preparing to contest elections in PoK, but before that the Pakistan government took action against his committee and him.
PoK government spokesperson Javed Mir says that the public committee had called the bandh on June 9. According to intelligence information, the people of the committee spread violence in PoK, hence they have been banned.
Javed Mir further said that we are trying to resolve the issue through talks with the committee. It will be better if the issue is resolved. Because, general elections are proposed in PoK.
