Voting for the by-elections held on Thursday on three assembly seats of Bihar, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh was completed peacefully. Voters exercised their franchise in Bihar’s Bankipur, Gujarat’s Manjalpur and Madhya Pradesh’s Datia assembly seats. According to the Election Commission, till the last available data, the Bankipur seat of Bihar 34.30 percenton Manjalpur seat of Gujarat 37.50 Percentage and more than 71 percent voting was recorded in Datia seat of Madhya Pradesh.
Voting ended at 6:00 pm and coincided with the by-elections held in Manjalpur in Gujarat and Datia in Madhya Pradesh. Bankipur Counting of votes for the seat will take place on August 3.
Prashant Kishore’s reputation at stake in Bankipur
There was a vacancy in the Bankipur by-election in Bihar after BJP leader Nitin Naveen resigned from the post of MLA after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. BJP has fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, while Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore is also in the contest.
Voting in Bankipur by-election was less than expected. A total of 34.30 percent voting was recorded on this seat on Thursday. This figure is about 7 percent less than the last assembly elections. In the 2025 assembly elections, 41.39 percent voting took place in Bankipur seat, whereas this time a significant decline was recorded in the voting percentage.
Amidst this huge electoral contest, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh cast his vote at the polling station of Chakaram Primary School and stressed the democratic importance of this act.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh told reporters, “Any election is a celebration of democracy, and voters should participate in this festival with great enthusiasm. That is why I have come straight from Delhi to cast my vote and will go back immediately after casting my vote.” Speaking on the political turmoil in the state, the senior leader sharply criticized Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor, dismissing his electoral importance.
BJP’s election test in Datia
Voting for Datia Assembly by-election ended peacefully on Thursday, with around 71.44 percent voting taking place. Datia District Collector Swapnil Wankhade also said that the polling process ended smoothly at 6 pm, peaceful voting took place at all 291 polling stations and there were no incidents of violence or breach of peace.
Datia assembly seat fell vacant on April 2 after the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti. BJP has fielded Ashutosh Tiwari, while Congress has fielded Ghanshyam Singh, while supporters of Narottam Mishra had created a lot of ruckus when BJP made Ashutosh Tiwari its candidate.
Collector Wankhade said, “Datia by-election ended at 6 pm, and a total of 71.44 percent voting took place across all 291 polling stations. There was no incident of breach of peace at any polling station. The entire polling process was peaceful and smooth. No voting machine had to be changed during the polling.” He said that the polling process was continuously monitored throughout the day.
According to preliminary data, 74.09 percent of the 1,16,116 registered male voters cast their votes, while 68.48 percent of the 1,04,284 registered female voters cast their votes. Out of 10 voters in the “other” category, 40 percent cast their vote. With this, the total voter turnout was 71.44 percent.
37.50 percent voting in Manjalpur
Apart from this, according to the Election Commission, a total of 37.50 percent voting took place in Manjalpur seat of Vadodara. Manjalpur seat fell vacant after the death of sitting BJP MLA Yogeshbhai Narandas Patel, who had won the seat in the last three elections. The main contest in Manjalpur by-election is between BJP’s Satish Patel and Congress’s Bhikhabhai Rabari.
