Landslide devastation in Jammu and Kashmir… 7 people died in Poonch, I&FC issued advisory

The flood affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Nowshera and Poonch, have suffered huge losses. 7 people died due to landslide in Poonch area. After which a special rescue operation was jointly conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police with the help of helicopter. During this operation, the body of a citizen who lost his life in the flash flood was taken out.

Due to continuous heavy rains, the water level of rivers and streams had suddenly increased, making it extremely difficult to reach the dead body. Due to strong currents and adverse weather, even the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were not successful in taking out the body. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police started a special operation with the help of helicopters. The rescue team was rushed to the spot through helicopter and amid difficult conditions, the body was taken out and brought to a safe place.

Relief and rescue operations continue

Relief and rescue operations are going on continuously in the area. Teams of administration, army, police, NDRF and SDRF are busy in rescuing the people trapped in the affected areas and searching for the missing people. Officials have appealed to people to stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas during bad weather and follow the advisories issued by the administration.

I&FC issued advisory

Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department issued a public advisory on Monday warning of heavy rains, flash floods (sudden floods) and sharp rise in water level in many parts of South Kashmir. This warning has been issued on the basis of forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the advisory, IMD has predicted heavy rain in Jhelum basin on the morning of July 21.

Possibility of heavy rain in these areas

There is a possibility of 50 to 100 mm of rain in Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts of South Kashmir. Apart from this, another round of rain of relatively low intensity is likely to occur on the morning of July 22. The department has warned that due to this heavy rainfall, flash flood situation may arise and the water level in canals, khalas (open), drains and other waterways may rise rapidly.
