June 12, 2026 by Uma Shankar

India’s best pistol shooter and veteran coach Jaspal Rana passed away. Jaspal Rana, who often laughed and played, fought passionately for his players and his rights, lost the battle of life. All this happened so suddenly that hardly anyone could have imagined. His health deteriorating in a foreign land, his treatment in Delhi and then his sudden departure from the world gave a great shock and sorrow to every Indian. Sad because at one time he seemed to be completely fine but suddenly everything changed.

Health deteriorated in Germany

Jaspal Rana Was in Germany with the shooting team where the World Cup was going on in Munich. When TV9 talked to him then, he told that he was feeling pain for a few days, which he thought was a normal gas related problem. When asked on May 31 when he was returning, he messaged at around 2 am in the early morning of June 1… ‘Landed in Delhi’. Then, after a few hours in the morning, it came to light that his health deteriorated and he was admitted to Max Super Specialty Hospital in Saket.

Had surgery, improved, then suddenly…

Since then he was admitted to the hospital, where he also underwent surgery. According to the information received by TV9, during this time he was implanted with a stent, which was successful. Soon a second stent was also to be inserted. Rana’s father Narayan Singh Rana, former sports minister in the Uttarakhand government, had told that his health improved in the meantime but the doctors were not allowing him to meet him. TV9 also spoke to his daughter Shreyanshi Rana and she also told that father’s health is recovering. But all these hopes were dashed late on Thursday night, when Jaspal breathed his last and left this world.

Biggest loss for Indian shooting

Jaspal Rana’s demise is untimely and it is indeed very difficult to fill his place. This is not just a matter of saying but he himself proved it many times in his long shooting and coaching career. Be it the Indian record of winning the maximum number of 15 medals in the Commonwealth Games or Manu Bhakar’s record of winning 2 medals in the same Olympics under his coaching, Jaspal Rana gave his all to the shooting range and his aim was accurate on every front.
