LA28 Olympics Cricket: These 4 countries including Team India qualified, Pakistan did not get place

June 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Cricket is going to return in the Olympics 2028, about which there is already a lot of excitement. Now it has also become clear which teams will get a place in the Olympic cricket which is going to be held after 128 years and how they will be qualified. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Cricket Council made an announcement on Monday 29 June. Under this, Team India has got direct entry in the women’s event, while along with it, teams from Australia, South Africa and Great Britain (England) have also qualified.

Cricket is returning after 128 years with the Olympic Games going to be held in Los Angeles, America in 2028. A cricket match was played only once in the Olympics in 1900, in which there was a competition between Britain and France. Since then this sport was kept away from the Olympics. But for the last few years, with the advent of T20 format, efforts were being made to bring back cricket, which is being realized in the 2028 games.

However, unlike the Cricket World Cup, only 6 teams will be able to participate in the Olympics. A total of 28 matches will be played between 6-6 teams equally in Men’s and Women’s. All these matches will be held in T20 format only, which will be recognized by ICC. Now who will be those 6-6 teams and how will they be selected, this was revealed by ICC and IOC with the announcement of the qualification format. Some aspects of qualification are different for both (men and women).

In the women’s event, 4 out of 6 teams have qualified on the basis of the best 4 teams of the current T20 World Cup 2026. This qualification has been done on the basis of 4 best teams from different continents/regions. Indian team from Asia, Great Britain (England) from Europe, South Africa from Africa and Australia from Oceania have emerged as the best teams in the T20 World Cup. In such a situation, he has got direct entry. This is the reason why Pakistan (Asia) and New Zealand (Oceania) did not get direct entry. West Indies, which reached the semi-finals, could not qualify because West Indies is not recognized as a country under the IOC, it is a team made up of different countries.
