
Politics in Kerala has intensified after the attack on the officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday during the raids related to the financial transactions between the company of T. Veena, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and a sand mining company. While CPM is protesting against this raid, BJP has condemned the attack on the officers. ED has lodged an FIR regarding the attack. The agency says that this attack seems to have been carried out not suddenly but as part of a conspiracy.
After the major attack on the ED team by leftist activists, the investigating agency has condemned it. The agency says that according to the information received by ED, Veena was living with her father Vijayan in a house in Thiruvananthapuram. On this basis, a raid was conducted on that house also. When the ED team reached there, Vijayan was also present at the spot. During the search, many important documents, details of bank accounts, digital evidence, records related to investments and bank FD have been found.
Rs 18.36 crore frozen in 242 accounts
The agency says that ED has frozen about Rs 18 crore 36 lakh present in 242 accounts revealed in the raid. The recovered evidence is now being investigated. However, after the search was over at Veena and Vijayan’s house in Thiruvananthapuram, a team of the agency was attacked.
The mob attacked ED and CRPF vehicles with bricks and iron rods and vandalized them without any provocation. ED says that this attack seems to have been carried out not suddenly but as part of a conspiracy. In the attack, three vehicles in which ED and CRPF personnel were traveling were damaged. A driver also suffered eye injuries.
Action taken as per law: ED
While justifying the raid, the ED says that the team carried out the entire action as per the law and neither the ED officers nor the CRPF jawans adopted any aggressive attitude towards the crowd. In this case, ED has also lodged an FIR with Thiruvananthapuram Police. The agency says that further investigation will continue into the role of those who were allegedly given bribes or money in the CMRL case.
The FIR states that on May 27 (Wednesday) at around 7:15 am, the complainant, who worked as an Assistant Director in the Kochi ED office, and his team had reached the rented house of the Kerala opposition leader and his daughter at Baker Junction with a search warrant to investigate. The team conducted search operations there till around 2:40 pm.
A mob of 300 people attacked
According to the FIR, when the ED officer and other employees present with him were coming out after finishing their official duty and sitting in their vehicles (KL22-S-8016, KL-01-DA-2969 and KL-01-DF-6096) reached the road outside the gate of the house, then a crowd of about 300 people already present there surrounded them.
It is alleged that the people in the crowd had weapons like sticks, stones and bricks in their hands. The crowd was allegedly abusing and raising slogans like kill them. After this, all three vehicles were surrounded from all sides. The FIR states that the accused attacked ED officers and employees with sticks, due to which an officer got injured in his hand. The driver of a car was seriously injured by stone pelting and an attempt was made to kill him by attacking him with bricks and stones.
The FIR also said that when the Kerala Police and CRPF personnel present at the spot were trying to control the situation and stop the attackers, they were also attacked with sticks, sticks, stones and bricks, due to which many policemen were injured.
Loss of Rs 3 lakh due to attack
According to the complaint, the attack disrupted the duties of ED officials, Kerala Police and other government employees. Also, government vehicles were damaged, causing a loss of about Rs 3 lakh. It has been alleged in the FIR that the mob attacked together, committed crimes under sections like obstruction in government work, attempt to murder and sabotage.
FIR number 0762/2026 has been registered on 27 May 2026 at the Museum Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram. According to the FIR, the ED team had reached the house of a political leader’s daughter to conduct search action. It is alleged that after the search was over, when the ED officers were coming out of their vehicles, a crowd of about 300 people surrounded them.
It is alleged that the mob attacked with sticks, stones and bricks, threatened officers and obstructed government duty. In the FIR, it has been said that several officers including a driver were injured. Apart from this, there has also been an allegation of damaging the ED and police vehicles, due to which a loss of around Rs 3 lakh has been mentioned. The case has been registered under several sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. At least 300 unknown people have been made accused in this.
