Kaveri River Origin: How Kaveri became a river established in the kamandal of Rishi Agastya, read the story of its origin.

Birth of Kaveri River: In Sanatan Dharma, many rivers including Ganga have been given the status of mother. Kaveri river is also considered very revered in the scriptures. This river is considered to have special importance. The story of the birth of this river is said to be related to Lord Ganesha and sage Agastya. After all, how did the Kaveri river arise? According to the legend, at the time of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, all the gods and sages reached Mount Kailash. Due to this, the weight of the north direction increased and the balance was disturbed. Then Lord Shiva sent sage Agastya towards the south, so that the land remains balanced. Not only this, God installed Kaveri in his Kamandal. At the same time, the terror of demon Surapadma increased so much that the rain stopped.

Lord Ganesha took the form of a crow

Indra, the king of the gods, became worried due to the rain stopping. Then Devraj Indra came to know from Narad ji that Kaveri is in Agastya’s Kamandal. In such a situation, the gods were worried that if this divine water remained in the sage’s kamandal, then the people of the world would not be able to take advantage of it. After this, all the gods reached the shelter of Lord Ganesha and sought his help. Then Lord Ganesha took the form of a crow.

Kaveri river originated from

Lord Ganesha in the form of a crow reached sage Agastya and sat on top of his kamandalu. After this the sage tried to blow away Lord Ganesha sitting in the form of a crow on the Kamandal. On this the Kamandal fell and the water filled in it started flowing on the ground, due to which the river Kaveri originated. At first Sage Agastya could not know about this incident, but when he came to know about it, he realized that it was not an ordinary crow, but Lord Ganesha himself.

Kaveri is the Ganga of the South

Kaveri river has been described in detail in Skanda Purana in the section named Kaveri Mahatmya. Apart from this, the origin of Kaveri river is also mentioned in the fifth canto of Shrimad Bhagwat Purana. As much as Ganga River is considered important in North India, Kaveri River is considered equally important in South India. This is the reason why people call Kaveri river as Ganga of the South.
