Karnataka government will bring a new footpath policy and will impose heavy fine on those violating the policy. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the state government will bring a new footpath policy to ensure clear paths for pedestrians and impose a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh on illegal flex banners.
According to ANI news DK Shivakumar Said, “I agree that a new policy should be brought for footpaths. People are facing a lot of difficulty in walking on the footpaths. We have made footpaths by making huge investments, but vehicles are parked there and business is being done.” Special vending zones will be set up for street vendors.
He said, “We have to designate specific places for vendors and create an opportunity to keep the footpaths clean for people to walk. For one man’s business, the entire footpath becomes useless and people are forced to walk on the road. This has to be stopped. That is why we have decided to bring a new policy for footpaths.”
Fine will be imposed on illegal flex banners
DK Shivakumar said that the government will notify the roads where vending is allowed. He said, “We will announce on which roads the footpath cannot be occupied. On some side roads, we will allow those who are registered. Apart from that, everyone else will be removed. All the MLAs have unanimously given their opinion and have given me the responsibility.” Speaking on the issue of illegal flex banners, he said that those whose name will be below the banner will be fined.
DK Shivakumar said, “No matter how much we say, flex banners keep being put up. All parties put them up, people from our party also put them up. Everyone puts up flexes. Anyone whose name is below will be fined.”
Fine will be up to Rs 1 lakh
He said, “We have said that a fine of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh will be imposed for each flex, because this flex business has become very big. Happy birthday, all that. If the government has something, there is an easy system for it. There is an advertisement board. Anyone can take it and put it up. Apart from this, there is no permission to put banners anywhere else.”
The Chief Minister stressed that flexes put up for birthdays or events without using authorized advertisement boards will attract heavy fines.
