
Investigation is underway into the case of gelatin sticks being found in Bengaluru just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Karnataka. Meanwhile, six policemen of the state have been suspended till the investigation is completed in view of the security lapse. Gelatin sticks were found on the outskirts of Bengaluru during PM Modi’s scheduled visit.
Following the orders of Bengaluru South District Superintendent of Police (SP) R Srinivas Gowda, a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), an Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI) and 4 constables have been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty. The incident took place on May 10, when two gelatin sticks, six incense sticks, a matchbox, cellophane tape, a battery pack, wires and what appeared to be a circuit board were found 20 feet away from a kutcha road adjacent to a forest area near Kanakapura Road.
PM Modi came to ‘Art of Living’
Prime Minister Modi had come to Bengaluru to attend the program organized on the completion of 45 years of ‘Art of Living’ and the 70th birthday of its founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. These explosives were recovered about one and a half hours before the Prime Minister’s visit.
Kaggalipura police of Bengaluru South district have registered an FIR under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act (punishment for making or possessing explosive with intent to cause or attempting to cause danger to life or property) of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 9B of the Explosives Act (punishment for certain offences).
No arrest so far in the case
The police have not yet made any arrest in this case and it is not known from where this explosive material came. A team from the premier National Investigation Agency (NIA) also came from Delhi to help in the investigation, but no success was achieved.
