It is believed that the grace of these three gods maintains balance in a person’s life. In some beliefs, three knots are also associated with purity of mind, speech and action. It is believed that when a person keeps these three balanced, he gets success and peace in life.

Why are 5 knots tied?

Is it considered appropriate to tie an even number of knots?

In religious traditions, odd numbers like 3, 5 and 7 are considered more auspicious than even numbers like 2, 4, 6 or 8. Special importance of odd numbers has been given in worship, lamp, circumambulation and many religious works. This is the reason why most people tie odd number of knots while tying Kala Kalawa.
