After the defeat of Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the crisis in the party is continuously increasing. Within a month of being ousted from power in Bengal, the entire face of Trinamool has changed. Trinamool Legislative Party has broken. Under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee, 58 MLAs of Trinamool Congress have formed a separate faction and this faction has also been recognized by the Speaker.
After the disintegration of the MLAs, now the threat of disintegration of TMC MPs is looming. The same picture is likely to be seen in the Lok Sabha also. Party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has already raised the flag of rebellion and resigned from all party posts. Sources say that like Ritabrata Banerjee in the Assembly, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar is engaged in uniting the Lok Sabha MPs and Delhi is becoming its centre. The color of Bengal’s politics is likely to be visible in Delhi for the next two-three days.
Abhishek Banerjee reached Delhi, damage control intensified
The crowd of Trinamool MPs is gradually increasing in the capital Delhi. There is a meeting of India Alliance on June 8. Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are likely to attend this meeting.
However, amid reports of rebellion among TMC MPs, Abhishek Banerjee has reached Delhi from Kolkata on Saturday and Mamata Banerjee is likely to come to Delhi on Sunday. Abhishek Banerjee has reached Delhi a day before the schedule. Speculations are intense about his coming to Delhi a day earlier. It is believed that he is trying to convince the rebel MPs.
Meanwhile, it is said that on June 8, a group of Trinamool MPs will meet the Lok Sabha Speaker. Will MPs launch ‘Operation Lutyens’ on June 8, the day of Trinamool supremo’s visit to Delhi?
Who are the rebels among Trinamool MPs?
Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has openly declared rebellion. However, even after this, reports of displeasure are coming from the MPs one after the other. According to sources, Derek O’Brien called MP Jagdish Basunia. He wanted to know why he did not come to the meeting called by Mamata Banerjee? In response, Jagdish Basunia talked about his son’s illness. Just said that they had to show proof.
Reports said that Derek had to send a photo of his son lying on a hospital bed. Obviously, MP Jagdish Basunia is very angry with this behaviour. Again, there are inside reports that another MP is in touch with BJP.
However, BJP has said that it has no connection with this incident. Also, there are reports that celebrity MPs are increasing distance from the party. According to sources, the names of MPs Dev, Rachna, Yusuf Pathan, June Maliya are in the list, although there is no confusion about which side Sayani Ghosh is on.
Yusuf’s refusal to obey Mamata’s orders
On the other hand, Sudip Banerjee’s wife Nayan Banerjee is clearly on Mamata Banerjee’s side, but Sudip Banerjee was removed from the post of party leader in the Lok Sabha and Abhishek Banerjee was brought in his place. In such a situation, attention will be paid to where she stands.
At the same time, Muslim MPs from Malda-Murshidabad will remain with Trinamool or join Congress. There is speculation regarding this also. Mamata Banerjee had asked former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan to step down as MP so that he could contest elections from Baharampur, but there are reports that Yusuf Pathan refused to listen to Mamata Banerjee.
He says that the people of Baharampur have elected him and only two years have passed. There is talk of former cricketer Sourav Ganguly also mediating in this matter, although Sourav Ganguly has denied the news of mediation.
Plan to remove Abhishek from the post of leader in Lok Sabha
However, sources say that the rebel Trinamool MPs do not want to rush. According to sources in the angry group, the rebellion will not be started until some MPs step aside so that the anti-defection law is not implemented. The main blueprint is to write a letter to the Speaker to remove Abhishek Banerjee from the post of party leader.
Trinamool has 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha, although TMC had won 29 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but one seat is vacant due to the death of Basirhat MP Haji Noorul Islam. In such a situation, the plan of the rebel MPs is to remove Abhishek Banerjee from the post of party leader in the Lok Sabha with the help of 15 MPs. The rebel MPs have claimed that there are 18 MPs with them.
