June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Under the leadership of MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, 20 rebel TMC MPs on Sunday announced their merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). The rebel MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and informed him about this by giving him a letter and demanded to sit separately from the Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha. now on monday NCPI has informed the Election Commission about the merger of the rebel faction of TMC and the election of Kakoli Ghosh as president.

Sources say that NCPI There is no confusion. Party President Shiuli Kundu had resigned from the post of President along with the primary membership of the party on 28 May 2026. According to the information, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had sent a letter dated 18 May 2026 to the Speaker about breaking away from TMC.

After this, the Political Affairs Committee of NCPI elected Kakoli as the elected president of the party on 31 May.

Shiuli Kundu started the party in 2022

Let us tell you that three people including Shiuli Kundu, a resident of Howrah and a lawyer by profession, started this party with the name ‘NCPI’. In response to media questions, Shiuli said that he had started the party in 2022. The party was formed in Sankrail, Howrah.

This party had contested Tripura elections in 2023. In the same year, he had also fielded his candidates in the Bengal Panchayat elections. Shiuli Kundu was the founder and president of the party. The name of the General Secretary was Saikat Das. Later a committee was formed, and many people also joined as members.

Had resigned from the post of party president

Shiuli’s husband Uttiya Kundu was also a member of the party. Shiuli said that he had resigned a month ago due to personal reasons. She said that she does social work and is a lawyer, hence she left the party. She said that she works especially with women.

Hearing that 20 MPs are joining NCPI, Shiuli said, “It is good to hear that the party is going to bigger places.” On Monday, Central Force was deployed at the concerned address in Howrah. Force presence was seen there from morning till night.

Kunal Ghosh raised questions on merger

On the other hand, TMC spokesperson and MLA Kunal Ghosh raised questions on the merger of rebel TMC MPs. He posted on X that he won from one party, then went to the houses of leaders of the other party, held meetings, and joined the third party. Such work has never been done before.

He said that he himself made the announcement of joining this third party after the meeting with the other party. It is not clear whether any member of the third party was present in the meeting held between a faction of the first party and the second party. It is not known whether the faction of the first party had a meeting with whom of the third party regarding joining the third party, or whether the second party itself had booked seats for them.

What am I saying…
1) After winning from one party, he went to the house of the leaders of the opposite party and joined the third party. Unparalleled gratitude.
2) He himself announced joining the third party after meeting with the second party.
3) Someone from the third party was present in the meeting of a group of the first party with the second party.

He said that no handshake, flag showing, or any such photo was seen to include any faction of the first party in the third party – this is strange. The second party acted as a messenger to send a faction of the first party to the third party, but did not open the door for them itself.

Kunal Ghosh said that even if the second party acted as a messenger to send a group of the first party to the third party, then in which committee meeting of the third party, through which proposal, the decision to accept them was taken – none of the third parties has yet told this clearly.
