The External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday rejected the so-called assembly elections being held in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK), calling it a ‘sham’ attempt by Islamabad to legitimize its ‘illegal occupation’ of the region. In fact, reacting to the news regarding the elections, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, which also includes the area under illegal occupation of Pakistan, is an integral part of India.
The Ministry of External Affairs has called it a ‘cosmetic election’. Randhir Jaiswal said that this election exercise is an attempt to hide the illegal occupation of Pakistan and the serious human rights violations taking place there. Apart from this, on the ongoing protests in PoJK, the ministry said that the ongoing large-scale protests in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir are the result of Pakistan’s economic exploitation, depriving people of their fundamental rights and administrative repression.
Judicial process continues against Nirav Modi in Britain
At the same time, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on the extradition case of Nirav Modi that the judicial process against Nirav Modi is still going on in Britain, the extradition process will proceed only after the completion of the legal process. He said that the Government of India is constantly monitoring the legal proceedings going on in Britain. Clarifying its stand, the government said that India is committed to bringing back all fugitive economic offenders and presenting them before the Indian justice system.
India-China border trade will start again
On India-China border trade, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India-China border trade will resume through Nathu-La Pass from August 1. The ministry said that this decision is not new, but is being implemented as per the earlier agreement between the two countries. Citing a press release dated August 19, 2025, the ministry said that both sides had agreed to resume border trade through three designated trade routes, Lipulekh, Shipki La and Nathu-La pass. Now the steps decided under the same consent are being implemented in a phased manner. According to the ministry, the process of reestablishing border trade between the two countries is progressing as per the schedule.
